Public Works Projects
Public works projects are how characters can go about improving the island and making it more of a home. These are all large scale projects, such as maintaining food supplies, building new housing, or defending the island from sea monsters. The idea is that everyone participates in making the island function, and this is how we can track growth.
Public works projects are completed by turning in AC. Each set of 10 comments you do for AC can be submitted to a variety of projects to help it reach completion. 10 base AC comments and up to 30 bonus AC comments can be submitted each month. Please see the Activity Check page to submit your AC and public works projects information, this page is here for reference.
There are two kinds of public works projects: general, and specialized. General projects can be filled by any kind of AC comments, from any kind of thread. Specialized public works require that the comments submitted for them be able that specific project. For example, 'island upkeep' is a general project and can accept any kind of comment towards fulfillment. But on the other hand, 'build a sauna' requires comments specifically about building a sauna- gathering of materials, making plans, working together on building the sauna, and so forth.
Projects that are in progress will be listed in the main body of this post, while projects that are completed will be moved to the comments section and subsequently updated on the locations page.
If you would like to make your own custom public works project, look to the first comment in the comments section for more information.

General Projects
Food Storage (level 3)
Now that the settlement can secure their food and keep things cold, it's time for the next step: preservation! The equipment is already here, but learning how to can food properly takes time and effort. You don't want to do it wrong and risk botulism, do you? Once this level of food storage is complete, residents will be able to properly preserve food to last through the long, harsh winter.
PROGRESS: 10/100
Defenses (level 2)
The innermost ring and middle ring of sea nets have been fully repaired, and they are functioning properly. Home feels a little bit safer now, thanks to everyone's efforts. Still, there is a third row of sea nets in need of repair, and this work needs to be done carefully. After all, you're in open waters on the outside of that one, and there's no telling what might be lurking in the deep.
PROGRESS: 20/70
Town Morale - Beautification
Survival on the edge of the Known World is difficult! Everyone has to work hard every day, and sometimes the stress of keeping everyone fed and housed is a bit much. Keeping up town morale is important, and what better way is there to do that than by making everything look nice? This project tracks the efforts of the Outlanders to tidy up the main living spaces around town and make it look more like an actual town than the remains of a once-raided village. Glass is swept up, flowers replanted, weeds pulled, trash moved, and so on. The little details do make for a big difference.
PROGRESS: 30/50
Specialized Projects
Graveyard Upkeep
With the coming fall, Mauri has asked that everyone help him tend to the graveyard. It's important to keep the graves clean and the paths clear, so that the dead know they are being remembered. They need to pull the weeds, sweep leaves off the path, clean moss off the headstones, and repair the fence that surrounds the graveyard. While he doesn't specifically give a deadline to finish this, he does say that it's best to finish the yearly cleanup before the snow falls, as it makes it more difficult to do the work.
PROGRESS: 0/70
Housing Repairs
The housing situation on the island is a bit dire. There are plenty of sleeping bags to make due in the town hall, but a real bed in a real house is much better, isn't it?
Currently there are eight houses that can be made livable with minor repairs. Replacing broken glass, fixing a water-damaged floor, redoing the rooftop, that sort of thing. So pick a house and get going! (NOTE: for this one, specify which house you are repairing on your AC comment. Once that house is finished, it will be added to the housing spreadsheet. Those who fixed up the house will get first choice to live in there.)

School Repairs (level 1)
While a single shelf has proven to be enough for now, your resident NPC Mauri has warned that more books won't be available until there is a safe place to store them that isn't the town hall. While there has been extensive fire damage to the school, the library in it is actually one of the areas that is the least damaged. If the Otherworlders can take steps to sure up the weaker walls, repair the roof, and clean out the weather-damaged books in there, they might just have a secure place to keep further learning materials. And who knows, maybe something from in the old school library can be salvaged.
