Otherworlder Islands
The Otherworlder Islands is the tentative name for the series of islands that the Otherworlders will be living on. It's actually called "Otherworlder Settlement #5" by the Finnish government, but those settling on the islands have been given permission to name it as they see fit. The chain of islands is approximately 4 kilometers long (going from Northwest to Southeast) and 1.5 kilometers wide, with about half cleared for living on and growing food while half is uninhabited woodland used primarily for its resources.
Around the outside of the Otherworlder Islands is a series of three sea nets, which are used to keep Trolls and Beasts from swimming to the islands. The open sections in the nets on the maps are actually gates which can be opened and closed.
The islands crossed out in grey have been cleansed, but are currently not in use due to their location outside the innermost sea net. People must travel to them several times a year to make sure small beasts haven't moved into those islands.
Rabbit Island - South
The main island of this settlement, Rabbit island is by far the largest of all the islands in this settlement. It's southern area used to be the 'main' part of the settlement, where all the residents congregated for important events and such. Some houses can be found here as well.
A: Town Hall (powered)- this is the main meeting space for the settlement. The large building boasts more than enough space for over a hundred people to gather for meetings, celebrations, and anything else. This building has been recently repaired and is in the best shape out of all the buildings on the island. There are also a couple-dozen sleeping bags that can be spread out for sleeping in the town hall building at night, at least until repairs to the houses can be made.
As of September 1st, power has been fully restored to Town Hall and can now run 24/7.
B: Windmill/Radio Tower (powered) - This two-in-one building contains both the power storage for Rabbit Island and the radio for contacting others. Both are older systems, but still in good repair. Still, the current setup can only make enough electricity for the buildings already attached to it, so the power lines cannot currently be spread further out.
As of September 1st, repairs have been made to the windmill and solar panel setups to allow for more power generation.
C: Food Storage (powered) - this large building has seen some better days, but it keeps the valuable food safely protected from the outside world. Upgrades have been made to better protect the food inside from vermin, and power has been restored to the building. Both shelf-stored and cold-stored food can be kept in the food storage now. Equipment to can food for longer storage has also been brought in, but the Otherworlders need to learn how to properly use the equipment before they can start canning their own food.
As of September 1st, power has been restored to this building, allowing for cold storage of foods.
D: Houses - these eight houses seem to have survived the fire that burned down most of the settlement. They have been sitting empty for twenty years, however, and will need repairs before they can be lived in. The numbers on the houses correspond to their number on the housing spreadsheet.
As of August 1st, Houses 1 and 2 are both repaired and available to move into.
E: Main Docks - these are the main docks for Rabbit Island. Several canoes can be found here for use by any resident. Larger boats can dock here, but none are owned by the settlement yet.
F: Burned Buildings - these buildings were largely damaged by a fire that burned through the island about 20 years ago. These structures are still partially standing, but severe repairs will need to be done to make them livable again. The largest of these buildings is the former schoolhouse and daycare.
G: Main Path - this path goes between the downtown and residential areas of Rabbit Island.
Rabbit Island - North
The northern part of Rabbit Island contains the remains of more of the town. This sections was more heavily affected by the fires from 20 years ago, and most of the buildings are irreparable. Demolition will be needed before rebuilding most of what was here.
A: Houses - the only two houses on this part of the island that weren't completely destroyed by the fires. While they can be repaired, they will take extensive work before they are livable again.
B: Burned Houses - these houses, the majority of those from this settlement, are burned and collapsed down to rubble. You might be able to find some trinkets buried among the fire-damaged wood and ash, but most of it is unrecoverable. Demolition will be needed before rebuilding.
C: Burned Buildings - it's hard to tell exactly what used to be here, but these buildings were far larger than the nearby houses. They are damaged beyond repair as well, and will need to be demolished before anything can be built there.
D: Graveyard - this is the graveyard that has served as a final resting place for the settlement for the last 100 years. The graves here are all marked with a name, a birth year, and a death year. About 40% of the graves here are from the first 10 years of the new calendar, 20% are the intervening years from year 10 to year 78, and 40% are from year 79. There is also a monument on the southern end of the graveyard, dedicated to when the settlement 'fell' in year 79 and claimed the lives of everyone living on the island.
E: Open Land - this land had been cleared for use, but nothing had been built on it yet. It has gone to seed and is now full of tall plants and young trees. This land can more easily be cleared for use when compared to the rest of the island though.
Rabbit Island - West
The western part of Rabbit Island largely consists of forest and other uninhibited lands. This area is routinely scouted for signs of Troll activity, but so far has been kept clear of any monsters. It's a plentiful source of wood, wild game, and wild foods, but care must be taken to avoid overusing those resources.
A: Rabbit Lake - here we have the reason for the island's name! This lake, roughly shaped like a rabbit, is a center of life for non-human residents of Rabbit Island. Plenty of fish can be found in the lake, and depending on the time of year ducks can be found living the shallower parts of the water. That said, it's also a breeding ground for mosquitoes, so take care when you come out here.
B: Forest - the forest is thickest in the northwest, but trees can be found throughout most of the western part of Rabbit Island. Plenty of life can be found here too. Most of the natural predators are gone now, thanks to the Rash, but that leaves plenty of small game for humans to hunt. In fact, it's advised that they do hunt regularly, if only to keep certain species from overpopulating.
C: Campground - this is an old campground, a place where kids and teenagers would set up tents to 'live in the forest' and get away from their parents for a few days every now and then. Though no camping gear remains, there are other signs of what used to be here: carvings on nearby trees, the remains of a fire pit made of reclaimed stones, packed down dirt from where people put up tents frequently, and so on. In fact, it would be easy to set up a tent and spend the night here, if you wanted to.
D: Sauna - on the edge of the forest, someone built a stone sauna at some point. Since it was so far away from the town it managed to escape the fires and still stands. It seems to be in working order, should anyone want to use it. It's also right near the coastline, so getting water to use is relatively easy.
Dock Island
Dock Island is the main island for shipping and receiving. It can handle traffic from small canoes all the way up to 50-meter ships. Shipments from other parts of Finland arrive once a week, usually on Fridays. Otherworlders currently cannot leave the Otherworlder Islands, but they can send mail and order for goods via Dock Island.
A: Cold Storage - this is for storing cold items that cannot wait in normal storage buildings. Or...it would be, if the building was in working order. Repairs will need to be done to fix this.
B: Windmill (powered) - this is the windmill and solar panel setup that provides electricity for the powered buildings on Dock Island. The setup is old and could use some upgrades, but is currently in working condition.
C: Records (powered) - this contains all of the shipping records for the Otherworlder Islands, going back to the island's founding in Year 1. There is a gap from Year 79 to Year 99, with records picking back up in March of 99. This building also contains a radio that can be used to contact both the radio on Rabbit Island and the radios of any ships within range of the radio tower.
D: Bunkhouse - sometimes ships need to dock overnight, or people find themselves stuck on Dock Island after a long day of work. The bunkhouse is a place for anyone to crash, provided they don't mind sharing one large sleeping room with several others. Please note that this building is not an adequate quarantine building! Anyone in need of quarantine should go to Quarantine Island.
E: Lighthouse - a lighthouse, good for directing ship traffic in fog or in storms. It is currently not connected to the Dock Island power, and instead relies on large mirrors and fire to work. NOTE: due to its tendency to attract the attention of Trolls and Beasts, it is highly recommended to only use the lighthouse in emergencies!
F: Storehouses - a storage place for nonperishable goods coming to the Otherworlder Islands. Currently it has several crates filled with the tools and supplies needed to rebuild a life on these islands.
Sheep Island
This island- actually two islands connected by a bridge- is named for its primary resource: sheep! The more northern of the two islands is fenced in grassland for the sheep to graze on, while the southern island is for growing hay and other crops. Travel between this island and Rabbit Island is about 10 minutes to the northern dock and 20 minutes to the southern dock.
A: Sheep House - this is a 3-bedroom house for the sheep herders to stay in. It's showing signs of wear and tear, but seems to have been unaffected by the fires from 20 years ago.
B: Doghouse - this small hutch is where the herding dogs live. Once repairs have been made to the sheep barn, herding dogs can be ordered and sent to the island.
C: Sheep Barn - this is the barn where the sheep live. They spend most of the winter inside, and come and go between here and the fields during the other seasons. Once repairs have been made to the barn, sheep can be ordered and sent to the island.
D: Sheep pasture - the grazing land for the sheep. It's large enough to support about 100 sheep maximum.
E: Farm House - a house much closer to the farmland, for those who will be tending to the farm daily. It has 3 bedrooms and is similar in style to the sheep house.
F: Farm Barn - the barn containing the tools for farming the land. Currently the farmland is set up so that it is growing food for the Otherworlders, but it can be switched to grow food and bedding for sheep in the future.
Quarantine Island
Quarantine Island is a secure location for individuals and small groups to carry out quarantine. Up to 10 people can quarantine on the island at once. Quarantine is mandatory for anyone coming from any location outside of the Otherworlder Islands, as well as any non-immune who has come into physical contact with a Troll or Beast. Quarantine is not needed for anyone traveling from Dock Island, provided they did not leave the Otherworlder Islands entirely.
A: Cabin - this cabin has the facilities needed for up to 10 individuals at once. It can be a bit cramped, but it works.
B: Second Gate - this is the gate for the middle sea net. The fishing are is just outside of this gate, heading towards Dock Island.
C: Third Gate - the gate to the innermost sea net. This must remain closed at all times, except for when a boat is passing through.
Snake Island
It is an island shaped like a snake. Nothing of note is on this island. It was most likely included inside the sea nets because it was easier to do that than build around it. This island is covered in grass and not much else.
